Who we are
The POPPHI project was a five-year project (2004-2009) focusing on the reduction of postpartum hemorrhage. It was funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), was led by PATH and includes four partners: RTI International, EngenderHealth, FIGO, and ICM.

By collaborating with diverse public- and private-sector partners, PATH helps provide appropriate health technologies and vital strategies that change the way people think and act. PATH’s work improves global health and well-being.
A recognized global leader in maternal health, PATH provided technical leadership and day-to-day management of the POPPHI project. The POPPHI project was housed in PATH’s Washington, DC office.

RTI International

RTI’s mission is to improve the human condition through objective, innovative, multidisciplinary research, development, and technical services, setting the standard for scientific and professional excellence.
RTI has extensive experience in designing and implementing feasible and efficient monitoring and evaluation systems. RTI applied this expertise to the POPPHI project, providing project leadership for monitoring and evaluation activities. RTI also contributed to costing and economic expertise to the project.

EngenderHealth
EngenderHealth works worldwide to improve the lives of individuals by making reproductive health services safe, available, and sustainable. EngenderHealth provides technical assistance, training, and information, with a focus on practical solutions that improve services where resources are scarce.
EngenderHealth applied its global expertise in maternity care, clinical guidelines and standards development, and quality improvement approaches to the POPPHI project.

FIGO
The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) is the only worldwide membership organization of obstetricians and gynecologists. FIGO works to promote the well-being of women and to raise the standard of practice in obstetrics and gynecology.

ICM
The International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) is an international nongovernmental organization that unites 85 national midwives’ associations from over 75 countries. ICM works toimprove women’s health globally and to promote and strengthen the midwifery profession. ICM also seeks to advance globally the position of the midwife and the value of midwifery and to achieve a reduction in rates of maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity.
